A time-lapse shot. I was in a hurry at this point, because I needed to catch the ferry from Bastia (on the east coast of Corsica) to the mainland. I intended to ride from Livorno to Lucerne, Switzerland, and stay the night, driving on home the next day. That was not to be, however. When I arrived at the hostel I'd booked in Lucerne at 2am they wouldn't answer the door. So I reluctantly decided to push on through. Right around that time it began pouring rain, and it didn't stop until I got home around 7am. In all, I spent about 18 miserable hours on the bike, much of it in the pouring rain. Later, after recovering from my zombified state, I indignantly went back and looked at the reservation email for that hostel in Lucerne. It turns out the email couldn't have been clearer about letting them know 24 hours in advance if guests are arriving after 10pm. They even set that disclaimer in a larger font, with a different color, probably hoping to get through to people like me. But I'll show them. I refuse to learn my lesson.
